After seeing the performances for the last few weeks, I’ve made my pick on who will win it all on “So You Think You Can Dance”, and the eventual winner will be Alex Wong.

This guy is talented beyond belief, and he crosses over into different dance genres very, very well. I know it is still somewhat early in the competition to declare a winner, but I think these two performances say it all…

So what do you think? Do you think Alex Wong will take the crown, or do you have a different pick in mind?

Once again I’ve neglected my poor pathetic blog, this time for a little over two weeks. After receiving an email from a friend of mine telling me to get off my rear and post something new, I thought I would start off by doing a roundup of things I’ve learned since my last post.

I Hate Linux

Not long ago I wrote a little something about how I missed using Linux as my main operating system. This past weekend I went for broke (again) and wiped out Windows 7 and proceeded to install Arch Linux. And you know what? The problems that I had before with Arch like throttled internet speeds and problems with Thunderbird were still there waiting for me. My insanity led me to believe that maybe those problems would be gone this time.

Not to be outdone, I wiped out Arch and installed Ubuntu. Turns out that Ubuntu doesn’t like my graphics card all that much and I couldn’t get compositing to work. Now I’m not one to let things go half-assed, so I let out a long sigh and reinstalled Windows and afterwards restored all my files and programs. I’m not a fan of Linux as much as I was a few days ago now.

Terrible Things

Last Thursday I spent a long time in the emergency room at the hospital. My lovely better half recently came up with some piercing abdominal pains, and a trip to Urgent Care a few days prior didn’t solve anything. After 12 hours in the emergency room and two CT scans later, the doctor informed us that she thinks my lady has a tumor. That really did not sit well with me at all.

After seeing a specialist the following day, and seeing another doctor today we still don’t know much more than we did early Friday morning. But there is some kind of growth in her abdomen and she’s going in for exploratory surgery as soon as they can schedule her in. I’m confident everything will turn out OK, but the whole idea of this puts me in a somber mood.

And as an added bonus, this medical problem has brought to light how much our insurance sucks. You may think you’re covered for instances like this, but you’ll never really know until you need it I guess. Our insurance won’t cover much of what we’ve already had done, and I fear the following surgeries will amount to a monstrous bill.

Don’t get me wrong, I want Bethany (aka the missus) to do whatever it takes to get better; I just don’t relish the thought of bankruptcy afterwards.

Thanksgiving Is Coming Soon

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and this year it’s up to me to make the dessert and a side dish for the family gathering. I plan on dazzling everyone with my apricot cheesecake and twice-baked sweet potatoes. That’s right, twice-baked sweet potatoes. If you have never had the great fortune of having either one of these fine creations of mine, you’re missing out. It’s life changing.

That’s it in a nutshell of what I now know from my absence. Now that things have settled down a little I may be able to post a little more regularly.
